At Marriott Bonvoy (over 30 brands including JW Marriott, Westin, Sheraton and Courtyard), lounge access, breakfast, suite upgrades and 4 p.m. checkout come together at Platinum (50 nights a year).
Resets on 1 January

The bottom line at a glance
50 credited nights in a year. Award nights count too. Earn it through stays in 2026 and it lasts until February 2028.
Lounge access and breakfast, upgrades including suites (when rooms are available), 4 pm checkout, +50% points.
10 nights from The BEST card + 40 nights of stays. The CLASSIC is no longer issued to new applicants.
Spend KRW 60,000,000 a year on The BEST and you get Platinum for a year. But no Annual Choice Benefit.
The Ritz-Carlton and EDITION give no elite breakfast. Four Points Flex and some others credit only 0.5 night per night.
75 nights. The difference at the hotel is small; it mainly adds the 75-night choice benefit and the 48-hour reservation guarantee (author's opinion).
1 · Tier structure
Platinum is the third of five elite tiers
Credited nights reset to zero on 1 January, and a tier earned through stays lasts through the whole following year and until February of the year after. Tiers granted by a card or a challenge may have a different validity period.
Tier ladder
Requirements and key benefits by tier
Lifetime Platinum: 600 lifetime nights + 10 years at Platinum or above. Even with lifetime status, you only get the 50-night Annual Choice Benefit if you earn 50 credited nights that year.
2 · Platinum benefits
What changes from check-in to checkout
Core benefits
What Platinum gets you
Lounge access + breakfast
This is not the same at every hotel. Lounge access (member + 1 guest in the same room) and the welcome gift are separate benefits, and depending on brand and region the welcome gift can be restaurant breakfast (member + 1) or a food and beverage credit. The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, EDITION and others are excluded (section 4).
Upgrades including Select Suites
Upgrades are based on rooms available on the day of check-in. Not guaranteed. At The Ritz-Carlton, rooms with Club Lounge access are excluded.
Guaranteed 4 pm
Guaranteed at regular hotels. At resorts, convention hotels, Design Hotels and similar it is subject to availability, and some brands are excluded. Ask for it at check-in.
Choose one: points, breakfast or amenity
The options vary by brand. If lounge breakfast is enough for you, consider choosing points.
+50% points on stays
Applies to eligible room rates and incidental spend. At most brands that is 10 points per $1 plus 5 points.
Reservation guarantee
If a participating hotel cannot honour a confirmed reservation, it provides alternative accommodation and set compensation (Ultimate Reservation Guarantee). However, at The Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve and St. Regis it applies only to Titanium and above. This is separate from any upgrade guarantee.
One Annual Choice Benefit
Choose from 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards, 5 Elite Night Credits and more. See section 3 below.

3 · Annual Choice Benefit
A gift you pick at 50 nights and at 75 nights
You can choose once 50 or 75 credited nights post to your account. Once chosen, it cannot be changed, and for 2026 qualification, if you do not choose by 1 February 2027, 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards are issued automatically.

Weigh your Titanium chances against trips where you would use upgrades
If you expect to finish the year on 70–74 credited nights, choose 5 Elite Night Credits to reach Titanium and the 75-night choice as well. Even if you choose in January 2027 for 2026 qualification, the credits count toward 2026. If you have trips before then where you would use upgrade awards, taking those first may be better.
If you will not reach 75 nights, take the upgrade awards
If you have a trip where you want a suite confirmed in advance, 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards are a safe pick. You need one for every night of a booking, so they suit trips of 5 nights or fewer.
The 75-night choice is usually the Free Night Award
One night at a hotel of 40,000 points or less. Top up with up to 25,000 points to use it at a hotel of up to 65,000 points (standard room).
Platinum received through a credit card or challenge does not come with an Annual Choice Benefit automatically. You only get it after 50 credited nights that year.
How to use
How to use Nightly Upgrade Awards
- What it is
- The new name for the former “Suite Night Awards”. They confirm an upgrade to a premium room or suite designated by the hotel before you arrive.
- One per night of the stay
- You need one for every night of a booking (including the fifth free night on award stays). To use them on only some nights you must split the booking, and you may have to change rooms.
- When it clears
- Availability is checked from 5 days before arrival at most hotels and from 3 days before at EDITION, The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis, until around 2 pm hotel local time the day before arrival. Confirmation is not guaranteed; if it fails, you get the awards back.
- Eligible bookings
- Bonvoy-eligible bookings at participating hotels: paid stays, award stays, Free Night Award stays and Cash + Points stays. Book first, then apply the awards.
- Cancellation
- Once confirmed, you cannot cancel just the upgrade. To get the awards back you must cancel the whole booking by 2 pm hotel local time the day before arrival; check the room cancellation charges separately.
- Validity
- Until 31 December of the year after you qualify. For 2026 qualification, they expire at the end of 2027 even if chosen in January 2027.
- Tips
- Tick only the room types you want. If you tick everything, an award may be spent on a small upgrade such as a room with a better view. Many reports say the success rate is good at Asian hotels with a high share of suites.
4 · Breakfast rules
How you get breakfast differs by brand
Platinum breakfast is not one common benefit; it depends on the mechanism, such as lounge access, the welcome gift or a food and beverage credit.
By brand
Where Platinum breakfast is and is not included
| Method | Typical brands | Tips |
|---|---|---|
| In the lounge | Hotels with a lounge, such as JW Marriott, Marriott and Renaissance (hotels, not resorts) | Member + 1 guest in the same room. An alternative benefit if the lounge is closed. At resorts, breakfast comes as the welcome gift |
| Chosen as the welcome gift | St. Regis, W, Westin, Le Méridien, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Four Points, Aloft and others | Choose “breakfast” at check-in for restaurant breakfast for the member + 1 |
| Points or food and beverage credit | AC Hotels, Moxy, Courtyard (welcome gift in the US, Canada and Europe) | Use the credit for breakfast. It may not cover a full breakfast. Lounge access follows separate rules (e.g. Courtyard hotels with a lounge outside the US and Canada) |
| Free for all guests | Residence Inn, Element and Fairfield (outside Asia Pacific) and others | Regardless of tier |
| No elite breakfast | The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION, Design Hotels / Fairfield and Element in Asia Pacific | The Ritz-Carlton and EDITION give points. Fairfield and Element in Asia Pacific give 500 points or a food and beverage amenity. For breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton and EDITION, book through STARS (section 6) |
“No elite breakfast” means breakfast is not provided as a Platinum benefit; you can still get it with a breakfast-inclusive rate or booking perks such as STARS. Restaurant breakfast varies by hotel and is not always a full buffet. There are many hotel-specific exceptions. Double-check the member benefits note on the hotel page in the Marriott app or in your booking confirmation email.
5 · Qualification routes
Elite night credits, challenges and stay examples
Here, nights stayed means the actual nights you spend at hotels, while elite night credits are the nights counted toward status. Credits from cards and promotions also count toward that total.
The Korea supplement covers Shinhan cards and calculations using card-issued elite night credits.

All bars use the same scale of 75 nights. The arithmetic assumes no other promotions and that the card nights post in that year. At hotels that credit half a night, earning 35 credited nights requires 70 actual nights.
Award nights normally count as one night, but Four Points Flex, Protea and similar brands credit only half a night per night stayed. Series by Marriott credits one night in the US, Canada and Greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), and half a night elsewhere.

16-night Platinum Challenge
Request it by phone or email
It is not on the website, so ask Marriott Bonvoy customer service for the “Platinum Elite Status Challenge”. Many reports say to call again if the agent does not know about it. Get the confirmed terms by email.
16 paid nights within the month you apply + 3 months
The period runs 3 months from the last day of the month you apply. Apply early in the month and you get almost 4 months. Award and Free Night Award stays and card credits do not count. (The Gold challenge is 8 nights.)
Platinum starts once you complete it
Your tier does not change during the challenge, and the expiry date depends on when you complete it (exceptions such as completing in January have been reported). Completing it does not automatically give you 50 credited nights or the Annual Choice Benefit.

These are survey figures (Travel-Dealz) for specific dates in February–April 2026, for 2 people in 1 room, so they are not current prices and vary by date. The cost per credited night applies the brand's credit ratio to that price. The most accurate way is to search a city in the Marriott app and sort by price yourself. Book a full-service hotel on a cheap date, like Le Méridien Khao Lak, and you can enjoy Platinum breakfast too.

6 · Travel agency-only rates
STARS · LUMINOUS for where status does not help
Marriott's version of Hyatt Privé
Marriott STARS · LUMINOUS
- What it is
- Luxury hotel rates sold only by Marriott-accredited travel agencies. They usually include breakfast for 2, upgrade when available, early check-in and late checkout, and hotel credits (e.g. US$100) vary by programme and hotel (LUMINOUS only at some hotels). Check each hotel's offer.
- Eligible hotels
- STARS covers top luxury such as The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION and The Luxury Collection; LUMINOUS covers some luxury and premium hotels such as JW Marriott and W.
- Why use it
- Even as Platinum, you get no elite breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton or EDITION. With these rates, breakfast is included regardless of status. At hotels with elite breakfast, the two breakfasts do not combine to cover more people.
- Nights and points
- They generally count as Marriott-eligible bookings, so you earn nights and points and also get your elite benefits. Confirm with the agency before booking.
- Price
- Often similar to the refundable rate on the official website. Compare with the same room and cancellation terms.
7 · Easy-to-miss pitfalls
Know these and you will not be disappointed
Checklist
Common pitfalls
Agoda and Booking.com bookings may earn neither benefits nor nights
Regular OTA bookings may be excluded from earning and elite benefits. Book direct by default, and when using an agency, check that it is a Bonvoy-eligible rate.
“Platinum = breakfast everywhere” is not true
The Ritz-Carlton, EDITION and Design Hotels give no elite breakfast, and Fairfield and Element in Asia Pacific give points or a food and beverage amenity instead. How you receive it also varies by brand and region.
Card-granted Platinum has no Annual Choice Benefit
Spending KRW 60,000,000 gets you the tier, but the 50-night Annual Choice Benefit only comes with 50 credited nights in that year. The validity of card-granted status (1 year) also differs from status earned through stays.
Account for brands that credit half a night
Four Points Flex credits only half a night per night stayed; Series by Marriott credits half a night outside the US, Canada and Greater China.
Card-issued night credits are capped at 15 per account per year, and The Classic is closed to new applications.
“Night-padding” services put you at risk under the terms
Some businesses charge money to check in on your behalf and add nights to your account. Stays you did not actually make risk account penalties under the terms.
The Annual Choice Benefit cannot be undone
Choose by weighing your Titanium chances against trips where you would use upgrade awards. For 2026, if you pass 1 February 2027, 5 upgrade awards are issued automatically.
